busted for marijuana possession

2006
nov. 10 - HUMBLE, Texas -- Country music singer Doug Supernaw has been arrested on a drug charge, the latest in a series of his run-ins with the law.

Supernaw, best known for his 1993 No. 1 hit "I Don't Call Him Daddy," was arrested at a club Wednesday on a marijuana possession charge. The 46-year-old was released from the Harris County Jail on $1,000 bail and is due in court Nov. 16. Jail officials said Friday that no attorney is listed for Supernaw.

Supernaw was sentenced last year to 115 days in jail and a $300 fine for marijuana possession. In past years, Supernaw has also been found guilty of assaulting a police officer, failing to pay child support and public intoxication.

busted for marijuana possession

2005
- Country singer Doug Supernaw's two day trial came to an end Thursday night, with a guilty verdict and a sentence. Supernaw was convicted of Marijuana possession.

Supernaw was ordered to pay a $300 fine, and serve 115 days in jail--time served.

Supernaw's antics stunned - and sometimes amused - a group of lawyers, witnesses and onlookers. He represented himself in the trial, and said he was set up by the coach of a minor league baseball team he came to town to see. Jurors didn't buy it. But, tonight, supernaw tells us the trial is about much more than marijuana possession.

"What I want people to know about me, is what you see is what you get. What's on trial here, in all these cases is not Doug Supernaw. My way of life is on trial.," Supernaw said.

Supernaw said he loves Amarillo. And, he'll be back--for his appeal, and, he says, possibly for some perjury lawsuits he might file.

He also has more legal troubles waiting for him in southeast Texas. Supernaw is scheduled to appear in a Washington County court on May 12,  to face charges that he assaulted a police officer there in 2002.

Supernaw says when he gets all that straightened out--he just might run for Governor of Texas.

2004
-- Doug Supernaw ran into a little trouble in Amarillo, Texas on Wednesday. Law trouble.
Supernaw, 43, was in the Potter County Detention Center after being arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces, according to jail records. Bond was set at $1,500, according to The Amarillo Globe-News.

Supernaw also is facing a felony charge of assault against a public servant in connection with a 2002 incident at a Brenham, Texas nightclub.

Do I smell the makings of a new country song?
